Brookline Gym

In this project, several large program volumes and a complex network of access routes negotiate a small site.

The given program volumes were distributed initially without regard to their required degrees of privacy, but rather according to the frequency with which their users would access them (see "Porosity" diagram above). As a result, the most frequently used spaces are nearest to the ground.

The building's skin separates the general public from gym members, wrapping into and through the building when necessary—public programs are conceptually "outside" the envelope. A public basketball court occupies the largest incursion.
